This was a typical basement bathroom with a very small 32 inch fiberglass shower surround, laminate vanity, and vinyl flooring. The shower had a very low ceiling height of just over 6 feet due to a soffit that contained drain pipes from upstairs bathroom. The old surround was removed and the rear wall was moved back nearly a foot, and the ceiling was framed to slope towards the back in order to provide more head room while still providing an enclosure for drain pipes. A 12 inch stone-look porcelain tile was used for the walls with a stone pebble shower pan and a large 24 inch by 12 inch wall niche, finished off with a clear glass frameless enclosure. We also installed a pony wall to divide the vanity from the toilet, with a tile wainscot wall behind the toilet and a niche that matches the shower. The bathroom was finished off with a granite top for the vanity, a glass tile backsplash, and a matching porcelain floor tile with tile base trim.
