ProSource Wholesale | 2/28/2025
Tricks of the Trade is an article series dedicated to providing answers to commonly asked questions. The interviews are conducted with ProSource Wholesale® trade professional members, offering their insights and experience to these thoughts that arise during the building or remodeling process.
This month, we spoke with Alli and Noah Hutchison. Alli is the owner and principal designer of Hutch Design+Build in Fort Collins, Colorado. With years of experience in custom homes and large remodels, Alli brings a fresh yet practical approach to kitchen design.
She and her husband, Noah, have been members of ProSource of Northern Colorado for over three years, leveraging the partnership to deliver stunning kitchen transformations.
“For 2025, things are warming up from where they've been in the past,” Alli explains. "We've moved from stark black-and-white palettes to warmer hues while keeping kitchens light, bright, and airy."
Popular choices include warm whites, dusty blues, terracotta, espresso chocolate browns, and the ever-trendy mushroom. “Mushroom is huge right now, especially in kitchen spaces paired with brass accents,” Alli shares. Additionally, sagey greens are making waves, aligning with the broader trend of “kitchens going green” in 2025.
While trends come and go, certain hues remain timeless. “Your whites and neutral hues will stand the test of time,” Alli advises. Light, bright kitchens not only feel spacious but also maintain a classic look that won’t quickly go out of style.
For those hesitant to commit to bold choices, Alli suggests painting walls in neutral tones while opting for lighter cabinetry, such as cream-colored kitchen cabinets. “Cabinet colors are a bigger investment, but kitchen wall colors can easily be updated as trends evolve.”
When guiding clients, Alli emphasizes the importance of personal style and future plans. “If you're planning to sell in the next five to ten years, neutral colors are the way to go,” she says. However, for those looking to infuse personality, Alli recommends bold accent walls, colorful backsplashes, or even wallpaper—a trend making a big comeback.
“Wallpaper adds an impactful touch of personality,” Alli notes. “Pairing bold hues with wallpaper or wainscoting creates a cohesive, colorful kitchen without overwhelming the room.”
2025 is seeing a shift towards warm, earthy cabinet tones. For rustic kitchens with light-colored cabinets, she recommends using rich, earthy wall colors like sage green or terracotta to create depth.
For those repainting kitchen cabinets the same color as their walls, Alli offers a key tip: “Focus on undertones. If you have warm-toned cabinets, choose a warm-toned white like Sherwin-Williams' Greek Villa or Alabaster for the walls.”
Lighting—both natural and artificial—plays a significant role in color perception. “Natural light brings out the true colors, while artificial light can alter them,” Alli explains. In kitchens with limited natural light, she recommends using higher sheen paints and glossy finishes to reflect light and brighten the space.
Alli and Noah praise ProSource for its extensive sample offerings, personalized customer service, and trade pro members-only showroom benefits. “Having access to ProSource’s wide range of materials and expert advice has accelerated our business,” Alli shares.
